Passenger trains will begin running between China and Laos on April 13, 2023, as the first railway between the two countries begins operating cross-border service. Each day, one train will run from Kunming, Yunnan province in China to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos, while another will run in the opposite direction. The train will stop at 8 stations along the route and the total travel time will be 10.5 hours, including the customs clearance. The railway is a part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to build an extensive network of railways connecting China to many parts of the world, including Central Asia, Southeast Asia and Europe.
