A ruby sold for a record-breaking US$34.8 million at an auction by Sotheby’s New York on June 8, 2023. Described as the world’s largest, the ruby was unearthed in July 2022 in Mozambique by the mining company Fura. The gem is named Estrela de Fura, which means “Star of Fura” in Portuguese.
