Twenty-seven-year-old Parhati works full time as an IT technician in China, but he is also among a growing number of young people turning to hawking and other odd jobs to earn extra cash as their job prospects dim. The world’s second-largest economy reported that urban unemployment among people aged 16-24 hit a record high in April 2023.
