Taliban fighters and their supporters in Afghanistan were seen celebrating the departure of the last US troops from the country as America’s 20-year military presence came to an end just before midnight on August 30, 2021. Through the night, gunfire and fireworks were shot into the air in the capital Kabul, while some people celebrated in the streets of the cities of Khost and Kandahar, as well as in neighbouring Pakistan.
