Myanmar: Rebel group says its captured strategic town from ruling military | BBC News

A rebel group in western Myanmar has said it has captured a strategic town near the Indian border from the ruling military.

The town of Paletwa in Chin state is one of Myanmar’s main routes to India.

The Arakan Army is part of the ethnic minority rebel coalition, the Three Brotherhood Alliance, that launched coordinated attacks against Myanmar’s military government last October.

The rebel offensive has posed the biggest challenge to Myanmar’s military government since it seized power in a coup in 2021.
