Japan and China agrees to set up military hotline, stress importance of peace in the Taiwan Strait

Following a December 27, 2021, video call between Japan’s Defence Minister Nobuo Kishi and his Chinese counterpart Wei Fenghe, Tokyo said the two countries have agreed to set up a military hotline by the end of 2022. Announcing the decision, Japan’s top government spokesman, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, also said Kishi had stressed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
