Basem Naim, a member of the group’s political bureau, has welcomed the UN Security Council resolution as “significant and important”, but he says it’s important now to see how the international community works to compel Israel to implement it.
Naim also said Israel’s talk of captives does not include the more than 7,000 Palestinians being detained by Israel.
“We have at least 7,000 Palestinians kidnapped by the Israelis, and we consider them all hostages. If it has to come to release the hostages, it has to be applied on both sides,” he told Al Jazeera.
“We have welcomed the resolution, but it is the role of the international community to oblige Israel and to end this double standard and to deal with Israel as a rogue state,” he added.
