American federal prosecutors have accused the Indian government of being behind a plot to assassinate a prominent Sikh separatist leader based in the US. An Indian national faces charges in a Manhattan court after prosecutors said he worked with an Indian government employee to assassinate a New York resident who had advocated for a Sikh sovereign state in northern India.
