A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Jishishan county in China’s northwestern province of Gansu province just before midnight on December 18, 2023. The epicentre was located near the border of Gansu and Qinghai, some 102km (63 miles) from Gansu’s provincial capital Lanzhou. Nearly a hundred people were killed, while more than 200 people were reported injured in the early hours of December 19.
