The head of the Wagner mercenary group Yevgeny Prigozhin has reportedly been killed in a plane crash in Russia. The private plane carrying 10 people on board was en route to St Petersburg from Moscow on August 23, 2023, when it crashed in Moscow’s Tver region killing all passengers aboard, according to state media. Prigozhin, the mercenary tycoon, had been in exile after staging a failed uprising against Russian military officials. He was labelled a traitor by President Vladimir Putin and despite a deal brokered to secure his freedom, intense speculation continued about the fate of the man once known as “Putin’s chef”.
