Vietnamese property developer Truong My Lan was sentenced to death by a court on April 11, 2024, after she was found guilty of masterminding Vietnam’s largest fraud case. The court found the 67-year-old swindled US$12.5 billion from the Saigon Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SCB) over the course of a decade. The verdict came at the end of a five-week trial in Vietnam’s business capital Ho Chi Minh City. Eighty-five others also face verdicts and sentencing for their roles in the crime.
