Iranian chess player Sara Khadem reportedly competed without a hijab for two consecutive days at the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, that ends on December 30, 2022. Khadem is the latest Iranian woman to compete without the mandatory headscarf since the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody in September. Amini was detained for allegedly violating Iran’s strict dress code for women.
