North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un marked his late father Kim Jong-il’s 80th birthday at a national conference, according to state broadcaster KRT on February 16, 2022. The birthday of North Korea’s second leader is a national holiday known as the “Day of the Shining Star”. The celebration was held in front of Kim Jong-il’s statue in Samjiyon, which has been described as a “holy land of revolution” by the national media.
