China continued to see a surge in Covid-19 cases after topping 1,000 for two days in a row. On March 14, 2022, authorities reported 1,337 locally transmitted cases, marking a four-fold increase from a week ago. A lockdown was implemented in Shenzhen after it emerged that 95 per cent of the confirmed cases in Guangdong province were reported in the mega city. Jilin province, one of the most affected provinces in China, is scrambling to build a makeshift hospital with 1,500 beds to cater for the recent outbreak. In Hong Kong, which remains the worst-hit city in China, some 75 medical workers have been sent in from the mainland in an effort to alleviate the overwhelmed medical health sector. As of March 14, 733,785 cases and 4,279 deaths had been confirmed.
