McDonald’s Japan has suspended sales of medium and large French fries since January 9, 2022, allowing customers to only buy small portions. The fast-food chain said the sales restriction is because of delays in potato imports and expected to last for about a month. Global shipping operations continue to be severely affected by a mix of factors including Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns and a rapid recovery in consumer demand. Shipments of potatoes from Canada to Japan have also been affected by heavy snowfalls and bad weather at sea, as well as flood damage at the port of Vancouver.
