Afghans are struggling to keep warm amid the country’s coldest winter in 15 years. As of January 25, 2023, Taliban officials reported at least 158 deaths from the freezing weather and other winter-related causes since January 10. The extreme temperatures coincided with a severe economic crisis in the country, a mix that experts worry could spark a humanitarian crisis.
