Millions of holidaymakers have flocked to China’s iconic tourist sites as the country celebrates the annual May Day break, in a sign that Covid-19 fears are receding in mainland China more than a year since the pandemic began. Over 56.4 million domestic trips were recorded on May 1, 2021, which is the start of a five-day holiday period. Covid-19 has been brought largely under control in the mainland after a strict lockdown and stringent contact-tracing measures.
