Rescuers have saved at least seven melon-headed whales, a species related to pilot whales, after a group of 12 animals were spotted off the shore of China’s Zhejiang province. Local police in the city of Linhai received the report about the stranding at about 8am on July 6, 2021, prompting the rescue involving about 150 people and lasting several days. As of July 9, six of the animals had reportedly been released back into the wild and one other whale was still being cared for.
