Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Western allies to facilitate a peaceful settlement as the war in Ukraine continues. Xi is in Moscow for a three-day state visit that began on March 20, 2023. The pair reportedly discussed an end to the conflict that escalated with Russia’s full invasion in February 2022, but the second day of talks yielded no concrete details about any peace initiatives. Xi and Putin, however, did sign a joint statement that deepened ties between their two countries.
