US election: Democratic, Republican senators say Biden should receive intel briefings

Both Democratic and some Republican senators on Thursday said they believe Joe Biden should receive intelligence briefings ahead of Inauguration Day, though Republicans stopped short of calling Biden president-elect.

While Republican senators Mike Rounds and James Lankford still would not say Biden was president-elect, citing recounts and legal processes taking place, both said the former vice-president should receive the briefings.

Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen criticized President Donald Trump, saying he had “launched” attacks on “our democracy” and that preventing Biden from having the briefings was akin to “playing with matches.”
