US and South Korea stage largest joint military drills in years as North Korea test-fires missiles

South Korean and US troops staged joint military drills and practised building pontoon bridges to ferry armoured vehicles on March 15, 2023. The joint exercise involved 400 soldiers with 50 pieces of military equipment and two Apache helicopters. North Korea condemned the joint drills as a rehearsal for invasion and proof of hostile policies by Seoul and Washington. On the eve of the joint military drills, North Korean state-run television KRT on March 13 said that North Korea test-fired two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine.
