‘Pink wave’ sweeps the Philippines as incumbent vice-president Leni Robredo vies for top post

As the Philippine presidential election draws closer, incumbent vice-president Leni Robredo kicked off an all out pink-coloured campaign to become the country’s next leader. Nearly two million of her “pink wave” supporters joined the grass roots movement in support of Robredo. The former lawyer for the disadvantaged cited the threat of dictatorship and disinformation as her reason for seeking the country’s top job. In recent surveys, she is placed second behind her closest rival Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
