Around 100 Australian police and soldiers arrived in the Solomon Islands on November 26, 2021, after days of rioting in the capital Honiara. An anti-government protest erupted on November 24, demanding that the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, step down. But it quickly spiralled out of control, leaving three people dead. Shops were looted and dozens of buildings were burned down in the city’s Chinatown. This prompted the nation’s leader to request assistance from neighbouring countries. But not everyone in the Solomon Islands is happy with the presence of foreign troops.
