The rising cost of living in the UK, with higher energy bills and food prices, is causing many people to look at their spending habits harder.

It comes as pay rises are failing to keep up with these increased living costs, recent official figures show, putting the biggest squeeze on household finances in decades.

The price of a shopping basket in the UK filled with 15 standard food items rose by £1.32, or 8%, in just one year, new figures for the BBC show.
