What does a Ukrainian state of emergency mean for the Russia-Ukraine crisis? – BBC News

A state of emergency across the whole country is set to be declared, following a recommendation from Ukraine’s security council.

This will last 30 days, but is subject to approval by the Ukrainian parliament.

Ukraine is also conscripting reservists into the regular military as it braces for a possible invasion by its neighbour.

Meanwhile in Russia, today is a public holiday dedicated to the armed forces. Ukraine has urged citizens living in the country to leave immediately.

EU leaders will hold an emergency summit in Brussels tomorrow to discuss the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
