Apart from former Afghan leader Ashraf Ghani, thousands of diplomats and nationals who had been living in the upscale Wazir Akbar Khan area have left or are desperately trying to flee Taliban control. The high-end neighbourhood in the capital Kabul appeared almost empty on August 19, 2021.
