Tonga enters full Covid-19 lockdown as foreign aid continues to arrive after volcano disaster

Two years after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Tonga has entered its first full lockdown as it reels from the aftermath of a volcanic eruption. Beginning on February 3, 2022, the lockdown was prompted by two dock workers who tested positive for coronavirus. The island nation was previously virus-free, reporting only one case in 2021. But this outbreak comes after the arrival of international aid to Tonga, following a devastating volcanic eruption.
