President Donald Trump is invoking the Defence Production Act against coronavirus – LIVE

President Donald Trump said he is invoking the Defense Production Act for use against the coronavirus pandemic, putting in place a law that will allow the U.S. government to accelerate production of needed equipment.

Mr Trump also said a hospital ship will be sent to hard-hit New York to help people affected by the contagion, and that a second hospital ship will be deployed to the West Coast.

THE US-Canada border will be temporarily closed off to non-essential traffic in an effort to fight the escalating coronavirus pandemic, President Trump announced. Both countries mutually agreed to the decision, which isn’t expected to affect trade, Trump said.

Donald Trump has declared a US national emergency because of the coronavirus outbreak across the nation, banned travel to the US and asked Americans to practice social distancing and working from home where possible.
