A massive military parade was held in the North Korean capital Pyongyang on February 8, 2023, showcasing a record number of nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missiles in a potential challenge to defence systems in the US. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had pledged to expand the country’s military drills and strengthen preparedness. Now academic experts say that the display was not only meant as a warning to the United States, but was also an attempt to reassure North Koreans of the country’s future.
