Mixed reaction to proposal allowing single women over 30 in China to have children on their own

Amid China’s declining birth rate, a delegate of the country’s top political advisory body has suggested allowing single women over 30 to give birth to one child.
Single women in mainland China are not eligible to raise children as they cannot obtain a government-issued “birth permission certificate”, which is based on a marriage certificate. The suggestion by Hua Yawei, a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, has garnered mixed public reaction.
