Around 20 million people in China have joined the “new farmer” movement, according to the Chinese government. The mostly young Chinese professionals, having grown tired of the hustle and bustle of daily life, are reportedly looking for deeper meaning to their existence. Shrinking social mobility and a widening wealth gap in society are also pushing more young people to trade the rat race for the simpler joys they find on the farm.
