The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain tunnel, a major infrastructure project and part of the Yunnan-Tibet railway, was dug through on May 5, 2022, after more than eight years of construction. The tunnel is located near Lijiang city in southwest China’s Yunnan province. It’s part of the Lijiang-Shangri-La railway, a crucial section of the Yunnan-Tibet Railway. The Lijiang-Shangri-La railway has 20 tunnels in total, with 19 having been dug through so far. It’s expected to enter operation later this year. Upon completion, passengers will be able to travel from Kunming city to Shangri-La in four hours.
