India is growing its military presence along a disputed Himalayan border with China in northeastern Arunachal Pradesh state by building an airspace control centre. Tensions between the two nations remain high after failing to make progress in their latest round of talks to de-escalate the border dispute. Both nations have blamed each other for the lack of progress. Thousands of Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a high-altitude face-off for over a year. In 2020, more than 20 Indian servicemen and four Chinese soldiers were killed in the first deadly clash between the two Asian giants for 45 years.
