South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s government early on December 4, 2024, lifted the martial law he imposed just hours before, after a tense night of political drama that saw troops surround parliament and lawmakers vote to reject military rule. Yoon said his government withdrew military personnel following a bipartisan parliamentary vote that rejected martial law, and the measure was formally lifted during a cabinet meeting.
