Bars, gyms and other leisure facilities have been ordered to close for two weeks and restaurants can only serve takeaway after 6pm as Hong Kong ramps up its battle to prevent the Omicron Covid-19 variant from spreading in the city. The measures, announced by the city’s leader Carrie Lam, take effect from January 7. Although the city has gone through such restrictions before, many business owners say they’ll once again bear the brunt. The Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades predicts losses of up to US$1.03 billion.
