As the new school year begins under the Taliban’s rule, many female and male students in Afghanistan are separated from each other by curtains or boards in class. The hard-line Islamist group has announced a series of strict classroom measures at private colleges. Many universities in Kabul were empty on the first day of school as professors and students wrestled with the new rules.
