Virgin Galactic’s Richard Branson said his journey to space on July 11, 2021, was an “experience of a lifetime.” The British billionaire joined three employees and two pilots on board the VSS Unity spaceship created by his space tourism company. During their brief journey to space, Branson encouraged the next generation to dream big, saying that he hoped the trip was a giant leap towards commercial space travel for civilians. The mission’s success means Branson has beaten fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos in the race to be the first tycoon to cross the final frontier in a ship built by a company he founded.
