Afghanistan: UN condemns violence, calls for Eid ceasefire

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has expressed concern with the number of “serious human rights abuses” and violations alleged in communities affected by the ongoing military offensive in the country.
It also urged all parties to announce a ceasefire during the Eid al-Adha festivities.
The Afghan Taliban says it has taken control of a key border crossing with Pakistan following weeks of rapid territorial gains.
Afghanistan’s government insists it is pushing the fighters back.
