4th of July: Trump hosts second "Salute to America" celebration | FULL

U.S. President Donald Trump hosted the second annual “Salute to America” from the South Lawn of the White House on July 4, a celebration meant to commemorate American Independence Day, as the country continues to battle the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The celebration drew huge crowds even as the United States is dealing with surging COVID-19 numbers in multiple states across the country, and health officials urge Americans to abide by health restrictions that include social distancing.

A day earlier Trump held an Independence Day celebration at Mount Rushmore, also with fireworks, and criticized ongoing protests over anti-Black racism and police brutality that have seen the tearing down of monuments and statues of Confederate leaders and other historical figures. Trump claimed the protesters were trying to erase U.S. history.
