122-yr-old Iranian appears to be world’s oldest person

Born a century and two decades ago, on 23 September 1899, Fatemeh Norouzi Karizi of Torbat-e-Jam, in Iran, is thought to be the world’s oldest coronavirus vaccine recipient. But considering she’s lived through Iran’s Soviet invasion, the British invasion, the Iranian revolution, the Iraq war and eight different presidents, what’s the coronavirus pandemic to her?!

If you asked her about any of those events, though, she wouldn’t be able to tell you a thing. Karizi said, ‘During all these years in my life, I had a hard and difficult life. I have not been anywhere other than this house for a long time, and I am not literate … If something happens in the world, I do not know about it.’

Ignorance is bliss, they say – and possibly the key to long life?
